Coaching Systems Officer joins GB Taekwondo

After our great success, in partnership with Sport England, investing in and creating our England Talent Pathway for our young talented athletes, GB Taekwondo have now secured the resources to focus on our England Coach Talent Pathway.

With this we are pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Richards as our Coaching Systems Officer. Craig joins us from the Rugby Football League where he worked for many years within their Coach Education System.

Part of Craig’s key tasks will be building a World Class England Coach Pathway as a key part of our Olympic Legacy Programme.

GB Taekwondo is committed to working closely with instructors who are members of British Taekwondo (BT) and have a specific drive to focus on elite athlete development. This initiative will encompass the development of Sport Taekwondo specific knowledge in instructors, tailored personal development opportunities and continued learner support.

“This an exciting time to join GB Taekwondo,” stated Craig, “And the opportunity to work within a great sport and build on the fantastic work that has taken place so far.

“I look forward to getting out, working with the clubs and sharing the knowledge and expertise we have at our disposal.”

Dean Leak, GB Taekwondo's Development Manager added:

“Craig’s background in Rugby League in building sustainable coach pathways will be integral to formatting a specific coach pathway for Taekwondo.

"Whilst we have built key foundations in the last 12 months around athlete development, we can now look forward to focusing on coach development and forging closer links with club instructors to drive athlete development. Engaging with club instructors to understand their needs and ambitions will be essential in this process”.

As part of our new programme we will be looking to recognise and reward our talented clubs and further develop our ambitious instructors. We fully believe that better coaches mean better players and this is crucial to developing and sustaining our sport as a whole.
