REDEMPTION TIME FOR OLYMPICS HOPEFULS?
IT'S fight time again for five British players with Olympic ambitions in Zagreb this weekend after last month's disappointments at the British Open.
And GB Performance Director Gary Hall is confident the group can return to form at the Croatian Open after all five suffered first round exits in Manchester.
National champion Jordan Gayle and former British Open winner Tony Grisman will compete in the -68 kg weight division.
Lutalo Muhammad, Ruebyn Richards and Damon Sansum have been selected to contest the -80kg class.
"The guys didn't have hugely successful British Open," agreed Hall.
"But they still have it all to play for; whether that be for the Olympics, European Championships or for future programmes including Rio 2016.
"They want to get some more matches under their belts. So, the Croatian Open will be a good experience for them.
"I believe Iran are talking about sending a team to Zagreb so there could be some decent competition.
"It may not be an Olympic qualification event for us.
"But we are looking for some good performances to build on before the French Open next month which is a qualification tournament."
Grisman, in particular, was distraught by his early departure from the British Open, frustrated by technical problems in the latter stages of his contest.
However, Hall says the 26-year-old Nottinghamshire star is ready to prove himself again.
"Tony will admit he didn't give the best performance and that the system worked against him.
"However, he knows our ethos that if you dwell on the past, you jeopardise your future. And he has taken that on board."
