Anniversary aim for Maddy at Paris Open

16th November 2018

Maddison Moore plans to mark the first anniversary of her arrival in the GB Academy with an end of year high in France this weekend.

The former karate champion is part of a 13 strong GB squad competing at the Paris Open, including former champion, Mahama Cho.

Moore has enjoyed an encouraging opening 12 months at the National Performance Centre in Manchester since opting for a switch of martial arts career.

She was selected for the European Championships at -49kg and won a creditable silver medal at the Polish Open in September.

“I feel like this is a really good competition to finish the year off with,” agreed the promising fighter.

“ I just want to put all the work I’ve done this year together and show it on the mat.

“I’ve been in the Academy a year next week and now I’m going to France for the first time. So, I’m just absorbing it all in.”

With the exception of 29-year-old, double World Championship medallist, Cho, the GB squad is packed full of emerging talent.

And he is one of three fighters tackling the heavyweight division together with 2016 Paris Open bronze medallist, Jack Spall, and Cho’s fellow Londoner, Jonathan Bangura.

Scotland’s Jordyn Smith receives another chance to impress having produced some outstanding results in 2018. The teenager won the Junior World Championship in Tunisia and marked her senior debut with a European Championship bronze in Kazan.
