About Sharissa
Teenager, Gannaway started doing Taekwondo after her Dad’s friend and his kids were involved in the sport.
Since then she has gone from strength-to-strength and has most notably medalled twice at the Junior European Championships in 2017/2019 and was also selected to represent Team GB at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
Although she missed out on medalling, the Southampton-born athlete has taken it in her stride and has gone on to achieve a golden win at the Luxembourg Open.
The Southampton-born athlete has spent a number of years on the Development Squad and recently graduated to join the World Class Performance Programme in 2019.
60 SECOND INTERVIEW
WHEN DID YOU START TAEKWONDO AND WHY:
My Dad’s friend and his children were involved in the sport so he encouraged me to try Taekwondo for self-defence and to keep fit.
OTHER SPORTS PLAYED:
Figure skating, dance and a bit of football.
AMBITION:
Olympic, World and European Champion – all of it!
WHY SHOULD THE PUBLIC WATCH TAEKWONDO IN YOUR OPINION:
It’s intense sometimes, you never know what’s going to happen.
IF SOMEONE GAVE YOU £1 MILLION, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT:
I’d buy a house for my parents and then one for me. It’d be gone then. Maybe a car, aswell!
SOMETHING YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT SHARISSA GANNAWAY:
Not many people know I did figure skating, I was pretty good at it, could do all the jumps and spins.
