Gold For Britain’s Para Taekwondo Star

Britain’s leading para-taekwondo athlete, Amy Truesdale, collected her first gold medal of 2015 at the European Para Taekwondo Championships in Moldova, earlier this month.

The Chester based Champion won the prestigious title just after beating her opponent, Kadriye Turget of Turkey 13-7 in the semi-final, before going onto defeat Gamze Gurdal also of Turkey 22-13 in her final match.

The –K44 +58kg title isn’t the first victory the twenty-five-year-old fighter has achieved as she has accumulated a rather impressive track record throughout her Taekwondo career.

Just last year (2014), Amy celebrated another golden win at the European Championships, claimed a silver medal at the National Championships in Manchester as well as going onto become Commonwealth Champion.

Speaking on her successful triumph she said, “I’m very pleased with the outcome of my win and happy with the competition and the way it was organised.”

“I put a bit of pressure on myself as the European Para Taekwondo Championships have opened entries up to everyone, all countries not just Europe but overall I think I did well,
“Moving forward, I think the competition needs to keep going and requires a lot more promotion.”

With Taekwondo making its debut at the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020, Amy is well on her way to building up those all-important ranking points.
