PAUL BUXTON

CHIEF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Paul began his sports career at British Triathlon leading the lottery-funded World Class Start and Potential programmes following the Sydney Games. With a sports sciences education and a history in the sport as an athlete and coach, he grew a specialist interest in talent development, and high-performance strategy.

Paul joined UK Sport in 2006 as Performance Programmes Consultant, supporting National Governing Bodies to establish, review and develop World Class high-performance programmes that could deliver on the promise of success in the London 2012 Games. He left this role in 2014 having had the opportunity to work with over 26 Olympic and Paralympic high-performance programmes.

From 2014-2022 Paul led UK Sport’s performance investment strategy, working with Directors and the Board to make the case for sustained investment from the government and the lottery and ensure investment in sports, enabled Team GB and Paralympics GB to deliver medal success in the Rio and Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Paul has completed senior executive training in mediation (at Core Solutions) and in strategy and change (at Hult Ashridge business school). He joined GB Taekwondo on a part-time basis in February 2022.
