Second Bronze for Britain
George Lee took home a second bronze for the GB Taekwondo team during Sunday's action at the Trelleborg Open. He follows Amin Badr taking home a bronze after being narrowly defeted in the semi finals of the -68kg category.
Lee, from London, began the day in confident fashion defeating Nijat Aliyev, a member of the Azerbaijan National Team, 12-10.
A 9-2 win in the quarter final against Dutchman Dinc Halit set him up for a semi final match against Portugese fighter Andre Magone.
Magone, who represented Portugal at -63kg in the 2011 Junior European Championships, ended Lee's run in controversial circumstances running out a 6-2 victor.
There was again success for Britain on the wider scale as several members of the Junior and Cadet National Talent Squads took home medals.
Fusion TKD's Alexandra Thomas took home silver in the female junior -63kg category, losing to Mexican National Team member Jacqueline Rose Galloway Sanchez 5-2. Sanchez represented Mexico at senior level in the 2011 World Championships and was a gold medallist in the junior category at the 2011 Pan American Championship, illustrating Thomas' fantastic achievement in keeping it so close.
Leighann Lewis won bronze in the junior female -59kg whilst one the standout performances of the day was Ben Haines taking gold in the -73kg junior male division.
Aneila Afsar won silver in the cadet -47kg, Jack Lockwood took silver in cadet -53kg whilst Mollie Schofield and Shanelle Rowe both won bronzes in the cadet female -55kg.
Vivienne Wilkes won gold in the minors -43kg against Josie Dunn with both athletes from the South Hams club whilst Yilmaz Bekir, Owen Turner and Jeamy Navarro Schrank all took home gold medals. Meanwhile Scot Jordyn Smith looked fantastic in winning the -30kg minor gold 13-1 in the final.
