Jade Crowned World Player Of The Year
Jade Jones capped a memorable week in Mexico by being named the inaugural World Taekwondo Female Player of the Year at a lavish gala dinner at the Queretaro Convention Center.
Only twenty four hours after winning the coveted World Taekwondo Grand Prix title when beating Spanish rival Eva Calvo Gomz, the 21 year old captured another significant prize and one voted for by her peers.
“It’s an amazing honour and I’m so grateful to all those who voted for me” said Jones. “I’m overwhelmed and I really didn’t expect it.
“To be recognised by athletes, coaches and officials in this way is very special. It makes me want to work even harder now and to do even better in 2015.
“But first I’m going to enjoy a short break at home before preparing for next year’s competitions, especially the World Championships.”
The Korean double world champion Dae Hoon Lee was named Male Athlete of the Year in a category which saw Aaron Cook nominated.
And there was further recognition for Great Britain who were one of three nominees for the national association of the year award, won by the Mexican Taekwondo Federation.
