Matt Back on the Mat and Looking for More Medals
4th July 2019
Para taekwondo world champion Matt Bush returns to action looks to add to his growing medal collection when competing at the Chuncheon Open in South Korea today.
Also taking part in the Far East are former world champion and current world number one, Amy Truesdale (+58kg K44) and Joseph Lane (-75kg, K44)
Welsh heavyweight Bush was Britain’s only competitor at the Oceania Para Championships in Australia last week and claimed a bronze medal at +75kg, K44.
“I don’t mind competing back-to-back,” said the Haverfordwest born fighter.
“But coming so close together, along with the travelling, is tough on the body and mind alike.”
Competing in the birthplace of taekwondo is always extra motivation for GB competitors.
“My motivation is always the same,” said Bush. “Even though it’s good to fight in the home of taekwondo.
“Korea is cool, the food, the place and the people are all great, even if it is too hot for training!
“But I just try to remind myself I can’t control the outcome only what I do in the moment. Then I go over a few points in my head and go ono the mat.”
