Victory for GB’s Para Taekwondo Squad
4th December 2017
Reigning Para Taekwondo world champion, Amy Truesdale, has lead the way at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Games (IWAS) by winning another gold medal.
The successful 28-year-old found herself on the podium after defeating both Uzbekistan’s Guljonoy Naimova 20-8 in the semi-final and Moroccan Rajae Akermach 20-18 in the +58kg final match.
On winning she said:” I’m really happy to get gold today, it’s an improvement on the last time I fought here and got a silver.”
She continued, “I felt confident in this tournament, however I need to keep pushing with training and not get complacent as Tokyo is less than 966 days away and in Taekwondo anything can happen.”
As for teammate Leif Thobroe, he managed to land his first ever Taekwondo medal in the form a bronze. The Welsh fighter took on Hadi Hassanzada of Austria in the -61kg quarter final and won 17-5 before bowing out to number 1 seed Saeid Sadeghianpour (Iran) 1-14.
