IT WAS not just becoming world taekwondo champion that meant so much to Bianca Walkden, it was the circumstances and the timing of her victory that crystallised the moment for life.
Just a few months before the championships, she was trying desperately to recover from a knee operation, her second in four years.
Never one to do things by half, the Liverpool girl had torn one knee so badly that it required total reconstruction, complete with pins and screws, before comprehensively demolishing the other one. “I’ve got a matching pair now,” she says. “I’m like the Bionic Woman.”
