Julia Newton

INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE CHAIR

Julia Newton is an entrepreneur, director and trustee of a number of companies and charities over a range of sectors. She started her career working for NIKE in the U.S. and on returning to the UK founded marketing agency, Shine Communications. Over 10 years, she helped grow Shine from a team of two to over sixty, winning many awards for employee development.

Shine started as a sports marketing agency and accounts were won by Julia. She also handled brands such as: Dunlop, Slazenger, Puma, Reebok and contributed towards the sports maximisation of organisations including, Evian and Vodafone.

In 2009, Julia was appointed as a business advisor to the BBC One programme Village SOS, which was set up to help some of the UK’s most deprived communities.

She spent a year in a former coal­‐mining village helping to raise funds and set up a sustainable social enterprise.

More recently, Julia has helped set up a number of charities including the Rural Refugee Network, which has worked both regionally and nationally to resettle refugees from Syria in the UK.
