Former World Championship medallist Rachelle targets new career after leaving Elite level Taekwondo

17th October 2018

Rachelle Booth has announced her retirement from elite level Taekwondo and plans to return to higher education.

The Wigan-raised fighter first joined the World Class Performance Programme through the Fighting Chance initiative in 2014, where she made the switch from ITF Taekwondo.

The 23-year-old is best known for her bronze medal win during her 2015 World Championship debut and has picked up several accolades during her four years on the team, including a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Championships and bronze at the 2015 World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Samsun.

Earlier this year, Rachelle was back on the podium again at the President’s Cup in Morocco before her most recent medal in Russia.

“Rachelle has had significant success as an elite athlete and made a great contribution to the programme during her time on the GB programme,” said Performance Director, Gary Hall.

“But she has decided to return to university to concentrate on her academic development.

“Rachelle has been a fantastic, positive addition to our team and she will be missed by many. Who knows, one day, she may return.”
