GB Taekwondo appoint Andy Paton as WCP Performance Manager

4th December 2018

Andy Paton has been appointed as GB Taekwondo’s new Performance Manager and will join the Manchester-based World Class Performance programme next month.

Andy takes up his job just under two years out from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

For the past seven years he has been Player Development Manager (women) at the Rugby Football Union.

His responsibilities included: overall delivery of the player pathway, managing and driving the England U20s programme, the U18s Talent Development Group and the introduction of the U18 Centres of Excellence.

Additionally, he has worked with external agencies such as UK Coaching, Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme and Sports Aid to secure support and continuing professional development opportunities for players and staff within the pathway.

Andy describes himself as “a committed and self-motivated person who enjoys the challenges of work in an elite environment.”

GB Performance Director Gary Hall said: “I am delighted that following an extensive process we have recruited Andy Paton as our new World Class Performance manager.

“Andy joins us with more than seven years of experience working with the Rugby Football Union pathway.

“He has extensive experience in athlete development and working with multi-functional teams to achieve maximal affect.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the team in the new year.” Paton will start work in January 2019.
