GB Taekwondo completes UK Anti-Doping Assurance Framework

GB Taekwondo has completed the Assurance Framework which National Governing Bodies (NGBs) must fulfil to certify to UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) they are meeting their anti-doping responsibilities.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published its updated UK National Anti-Doping Policy in April 2021, the first Policy update for 12 years.All NGBs must be compliant, with British Sailing and British Ice Skating among those recently completing the Assurance Framework.UKAD is responsible for ensuring sports bodies comply with the World Anti-Doping Code through its implementation and management of the Policy. It introduced the Assurance Framework for NGBs to physically evidence their compliance.The introduction of the Assurance Framework is the most significant change in the 2021 Policy.It outlines a series of mandatory requirements all NGBs must fulfil including the creation of an education strategy and plan, the implementation of anti-doping rules and an increased involvement of the NGB’s Board with clean sportUpon completion of the Assurance Framework, Steve Green, GB Taekwondo’s Anti-Doping Lead Officer, said: “The anti-doping movement has been the cornerstone of clean sport for more than 20 years. “GB Taekwondo are proud to play our role to ensure athletes, staff and parents are aware of their role, educated and able to help to protect sport and its reputation.  “Not only is our mission to be a leading Taekwondo nation on the medal table but we are also committed to doing this with honesty, integrity and above all clean.“The endorsement that UKAD have given for our Assurance Framework submission means GB Taekwondo has fulfilled its anti-doping responsibilities as a funded sport. We can go about training and qualification for Paris 2024 with ‘100% me’ pride!”UKAD’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Nisha Dutt, said: “We are delighted to see GB Taekwondo completing the new UKAD Assurance Framework.“The Assurance Framework allows NGBs to demonstrate their plans to help protect the integrity of sport.
