Applications are now open! – Get involved here.

To celebrate International Volunteer Day5th December – GB Taekwondo launched the Volunteer Programme for the Manchester 2019 World Taekwondo Championships.

The United Kingdom will host this event for the first ever time when the Championships arrive in Manchester after 2 years since they were last held in Muju, South Korea. The competition will run across 5 days from Wednesday 15th – Sunday 19th May 2019 at the Manchester Arena.

Taekwondo athletes will be competing at the World Championships not only to become a World Champion but also to gain ranking points to secure their place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

With thousands of people expected to be watching from the stands, streaming and on television, it is definitely not one to be missed!

The Dan Clan will be an integral part of the World Championships as they will be the face of the competition. They will be seen across Manchester from the airport to hotels to transport hubs and of course in Manchester Arena. This is your chance to get involved!

The name “Dan Clan” comes from the common Korean term “Dan” which denotes a degree of black belt; the top belt rank you can achieve in Taekwondo. We believe that we will have the top rank of volunteers, so the name is only fitting!

GB Taekwondo will be recruiting 250 – 280 volunteers to make up the Dan Clan.

Volunteer roles will be available between Friday 10th May – Monday 20th May 2019 with 32 different roles available in 10 different areas – there’s plenty to choose from!

Not only are there roles available in the Competition Venue but there are supporting roles across Manchester, the home of GB Taekwondo, as there will be numerous events running simultaneously as the taekwondo world gather for meetings and events around famous Manchester landmarks.
Further details of the roles that are available can be found by clicking here.

GB Taekwondo’s Head of Events, Ian Leafe said “Taekwondo has a decade-long, rich and fantastic history of working with great volunteers in the UK – our events could not run well without our valued volunteer family.”

“This World Championship, alongside the surrounding congress events we are hosting in May is the largest taekwondo gathering on the planet. We call on all our volunteer friends, as well as new people interested in supporting us, as we literally welcome the world to the North West of England”.

GB Taekwondo’s Volunteer Manager, James Johnson further added: “Volunteering is a great way to get involved in Major Sporting Events. I encourage anyone who is thinking about getting involved to sign up because it will be a fantastic experience!”.
