Heavyweight Duo Lands Bronze In Moscow

Day 1 of the Moscow Grand Prix saw GB heavyweights, Bianca Walkden and Mahama Cho achieve podium success after a long day of strenuous matches.

Both athletes respectively reached their semi-final rounds of the competition before missing out on the chance to go for gold in their finals.

Bianca Walkden Podium

Current World Champion Bianca, who is ranked 6th position in the world faced up and coming Nafia Kus of Turkey during the +67kg semi-final.

The match started in favour of the young Turk before making a dramatic turn towards the end of the 3rd round, this eventually gave Liverpudilian Walkden the chance to reclaim her position during the extra “golden point” round. However, it wasn’t meant to be as Kus beat the 23-year-old to it and kicked her way into the final.

Mahama Cho Podium

As for +80kg team-mate, Mahama Cho, who famously won the inaugural Manchester Grand Prix in 2013, he was up against Russian Vladislav Larin.

The match itself saw London born Cho aim for a number of points via dramatic punches to the torso but despite his efforts, 10th ranked Larin managed to land a cluster of points in the closing moments of the final – landing the Russian a triumphant 5-0.
