Moore Please! Maddison sets New Gold Target

15th June 2019

Maddison Moore doesn’t plan to rest on her laurels after a recent career breakthrough victory at the Austrian Open.

The 24-year-old is one of five GB Taekwondo fighters competing at this weekend’s Luxembourg Open.

The former karate international is back in action just a week after her Austrian success.

And Moore is anxious not to become a one-hit wonder. “It felt great to win that first international gold,” she said of her -49kg triumph.

“It’s like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. But it has also made me hungry for more.

“I want to get gold every time now,” added the Kidderminster raised athlete, a member of GBT’s squad at last month’s World Championships in Manchester.

“I’m full of confidence because I know preparation has been good and it has been intense.”

Moore is joined in the -49kg division by reigning world junior champion, Jordyn Smith, stepping up from -46kg  and a win earlier this year at the US Open.

Also making the Luxembourg tournament is double European champion, Lauren Williams.

After her disappointments at the World Championship and Rome Grand Prix, the determined Welsh star is keen to stamp her authority again on the -67kg class.

Completing the squad is Yorkshire fighter Emelye O’Brien (-57kg) and teenage heavyweight Rebecca McGowan, the latter looking to build on her gold medal success at the 2019 US Open in Las Vegas.

Squad:

-49kg: Maddison Moore (Blakedown), Jordyn Smith (Falkirk)

-57kg: Emelye O’Brien (Bradford)

-67kg: Lauren Williams (Blackwood)

+73kg: Rebecca McGowan (Dumbarton)
