Background and origins of the club:

Master Mosy  (5th Dan) first established the club in 2007, which was originally named Huddersfield Taekwondo Club and was based at various venues around Huddersfield. The club rapidly expanded and in 2010 moved to a full-time venue in Birkby, Huddersfield . In 2011 the club was renamed to Premier Taekwondo.  As the club became more popular we opened satellite classes in areas such as Mirfield, Batley, Almondbury, Waterloo and London.  Since then the club has continued to do well and we now currently believe we have the largest amount of members in England as a single club.

Our development philosophy:

Premier Taekwondo’s ambition is to encourage our students to improve and learn new skills both physically and mentally. We aim to help members develop at a continuous rate from the grass roots stage in a fun and social environment.

Our club philosophy is ‘Every child matters’ therefore, we aim to deliver classes and training appropriate to the student’s needs both individually and as a group.

Our proudest achievements:

  • In 2016 Premier Taekwondo was awarded Club Mark accreditation
  • In 2016 we were officially recognised as a GB Talent Club
  • We were awarded sports club of the year in 2016 by Kirklees Council
  • Players represented GB U21s in European championship and World Junior championships
  • 6 players have been introduced into the GB talent pathway

Which of our players have been selected to the GB Taekwondo pathway:

  • Caden Cunningham
  • Kyla Julien
  • Charlotte Simpson
  • James Ince
  • Aaliyah Powell
  • Camran Hassan

Our key achievements and relationships:

We have worked closely with Kirklees council and schools both primary and secondary for a number of years, teaching Taekwondo classes from the grass roots stage but after school and during school times. These can vary from a period of 6-week courses to full school term courses. We also run holiday classes both indoors and out.

We have also worked with colleges and universities regularly, teaching classes for their enrichment courses. We usually attend university open days performing demonstrations and delivering presentations in order to gain more interest in Olympic style Taekwondo.

We are currently working with physiotherapists Kirthi Nandakumar and Sam Ehsan, who are key partners within our club. We work closely together in order to give our athletes the best chance and capability of delivering medal success on a national and international level.

Our training programme is in place to maximise the potential of our talented athletes whilst aiming to provide a structured route into the GB Talent Pathway, in order to do this effectively we have hosted various GB athlete/ coach seminars which include Paul Green, Gareth Brown, Sarah Jennings, Davoud Etminani and Bianca Walkden.

Future ambitions of the club:

In the future, we aim to expand our club and move to a bigger venue in order to cater to the needs of all our students. We would also like to expand our coaching team to cater for this change.

We would like to gain more members to our competition team and enter more international competitions. We hope to improve our competition results at a continuous rate.

We hope to expand our club by opening more satellite classes in and around Huddersfield

We would like to qualify more coaches and help them gain higher achievements such as level 2 coaching and so on. We would also like to help more volunteers attend courses such as corner judge etc

We’d love to work with other clubs, allowing them to use our venue and equipment, we’d also like to attend other venues and train with different clubs.

In the near future, we hope to place higher in competitions and continuously improve our results. We hope more players will be selected for the GB talent pathway.
