Truesdale Gears Up For Asia

Britain’s leading Para Taekwondo star, Amy Truesdale is back in the ring today (Monday) at the 2nd Asian Para Taekwondo Open Championships at the Marriott Convention Center in Manila.

The 26-year-old is going for gold in the +58kg weight division and this will be her 2nd outing on the Para Taekwondo circuit of this year, as just last month she came second at the Canadian Open.

The competition will be a stepping stone towards the European Championships where she will defend her title in Warsaw in September.

Before then however, Truesdale aims to secure more ranking points in a bid to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics – which will be including Taekwondo for the first time.

World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) President Chungwon Choue is pleased that the Para-sport has been recognised on an international level and has said:

“It was a huge honour for para-taekwondo to be included on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games sports program last year and we have worked hard to build on this momentum and realize the sport’s global potential.

He continued: “We know that there is still a lot of room for further growth but hosting world-class competitions in every continent will provide an international platform for para-taekwondo athletes to showcase their talent and inspire more people to get involved in the sport.”
