Athletes Confirmed for World Taekwondo GP Final in a Bid to Secure Paris Olympic & Paralympic Games Places

The team for the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final has now been confirmed. The team combines youth and experience, in a bid to gain valuable points needed to secure places for the GB Taekwondo Team at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The first allocation of Olympic and Paralympic places will be awarded in January 2024, based on athlete rankings. The GP Final is the highest-ranked event outside the World Championships and provides the final opportunity for athletes to maximise their ranking position ahead of the January 2024 decision. Places are awarded to nations with athletes ranked in the top 5 of the Olympic rankings and top 6 of the Paralympic rankings.

The World Taekwondo GP Final is the fourth and final event in the GP series of 2023, which has seen athletes compete in Rome, Paris, Veracruz and Taijuan. The event will be held in the Manchester Regional Arena from 1-3 December, marking 10 years since GB first partnered with World Taekwondo to launch the GP.

Performance Director Gary Hall MBE highlighted the importance of brining the final event of the series back to the UK. ‘The GP Final is the highest ranked event in the series and comes right at the end of the Games qualification process, when points really count. Having the event here in Manchester will make a significant difference to the GB Taekwondo Team. The impact of competing in front of friends, family, and a partisan home crowd, can’t be underestimated, and comes at a critical moment for these athletes. Thanks to our partners UK Sport and Manchester City Council for supporting us to host this event and giving GB athletes the best chance of Games qualification.’
