GBT
After an eventful competition week in Aigle, we're pleased to welcome the team back and celebrate their new medals.
Highlights and New Records
This year’s Junior European Taekwondo Championships gave us plenty to celebrate, with the team delivering an encouraging set of performances across the board. We also saw a real step forward from the last two Junior majors, with an increase in medals, including a standout moment from Alex Sherratt, who captured the Junior European Champion title. He becomes our first junior European gold medallist since Chloe Roberts (who is also from BTS Madoggs and achieved the same title 2019). Alex also becomes GB Taekwondo's first male champion since Bradly Sinden, won Gold back in 2015.
Emerging Talent
What makes this year even more exciting is the emergence of new talent. Three of our medalists were first-year juniors, and already showing the impressive traits of composure, ambition, and skill that we have been building on in training. More than half of the entire squad reached the quarter-finals, demonstrating that we’re developing a deep, competitive team capable of performing at the highest levels.
As we look ahead to next year’s major events, including the Junior World Championships and the Youth Olympic Games, we're optimistic of the teams direction. We know there’s still plenty of hard work ahead, but the potential within this group is unmistakable. Their dedication, resilience, and hunger to learn give us every reason to be excited about what’s to come.
And of course, none of this would be possible without the people behind the scenes! To all the clubs and parents who commit their time, energy, and support, thank you. Your belief in these young athletes is the foundation that allows them to chase big dreams and we can’t wait to see where their journey takes them next.
This competition was a return to form for our juniors showing the hard work of the athletes and those that support them is paying off. It’s an exciting time for GBT with the amount of young talent coming through the pathway.
