Double awards for GB Taekwondo at anniversary celebrations

12th July 2023

GB Taekwondo has been honoured at a gala dinner to celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of the sport’s longest-serving partners.

A GB Taekwondo delegation,  attended the gathering in Barcelona to recognise the contribution of martial arts brand, Daedo.

The company, whose international headquarters are based in the Spanish city, is currently in the second of a three-year official sponsorship agreement with GB Taekwondo.

Accompanying chief executive Paul Buxton in Barcelona were Daedo ambassadors Bradly Sinden who recently won the -68kg world title for the second time in four years, and Para taekwondo trail blazer, Amy Truesdale, a Tokyo 2020 medallist.

Yorkshireman Bradly, 24 from Doncaster, was recognised by Daedo for his contribution to the sport and again becoming world champion in Azerbaijan by beating South Korea’s Jin Ho-jun.

He achieved one of four podium places in Baku as GBT took fifth place on the medal table.

The performances confirmed the Manchester-trained squad as one of the world’s most competitive ever since Team GB’s first Olympic medal in 2008.

Since the breakthrough, GB Taekwondo has claimed eight Olympic medals, two of which have been gold while seven World heavyweight titles have been secured.

Away from the field of play, GB Taekwondo has hosted World and European Championships plus World Grand Prixs. Indeed, Manchester is preparing to stage the 2023 Grand Prix finals in December.

As a result, the Daedo 40th anniversary gala recognised these achievements with an award for GBT’s development of world class Taekwondo athletes while promoting the sport in the UK and worldwide.

“We were honoured, together with the rest of the global taekwondo community, to be invited to help Daedo celebrate their 40th anniversary,” said Paul.

“We thank them not only for their friendship and continued support of GB Taekwondo but their valuable, long-term support and achievements in taekwondo over the last 40 years.

“To then receive an award on behalf of GB Taekwondo and for myself, Bradly and Amy to be individually recognised rounded off a memorable occasion.”
