Simply The Beth! Grand Prix Glory For GB Paralympic Fighters

20th October 2022

Beth Munro secured a full house of Paralympic World Grand Prix medals with victory on day one of the Manchester-hosted event tonight (Thursday).

And the Liverpool star was among three home fighters who achieved podium finishes at the Regional Arena.

Former world champion Amy Truesdale collected silver while European champion Joe Lane won bronze.

Munro, who claimed bronze in Paris and silver in Rome earlier this year, defeated Paralympics taekwondo legend Lisa Gjessing in the K44,-65 kg final.

“I am ecstatic; especially because it is in Manchester and my friends are here to support me,” said Munro after her 8-4 success.

“I have got all three colours on show now which is fantastic,” added the British ace after avenging her final defeat to Dane Gjessing, a four-time world and European champion, at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Truesdale, looking to double up home success, lost 12-6 in the +65kg final to Guljonoy Naimova of Uzbekistan.

Londoner Lane, fighting at -80kg, went down 16-11 to Ukraine’s Asadbek Toshtemirov in the semi-finals.
