Walkden Reigns In Spain
European champion Bianca Walkden led the way at the Spanish Open on Sunday where she collected her second gold medal of 2015.
The 23-year-old defeated Yanna Schneider of Germany Schnieder 5-2 in the senior female’s final in the -73kg weight category.
Her conquest was quickly followed by more medal success in the form of Rachelle Booth’s silver win in the -62kg final against Spain’s Marta Calvo Gomez 6-3 and fellow Liverpudlian, Martin Stamper who also won silver after coming second place to Spanish Eduardo Peter Longobardi Radford 5-1 in the -68kg final.
Overall, it proved to be a successful weekend for the GB team, as sports all-rounder Charlie Maddock achieved a bronze medal in the -53kg semi-final, where she lost against Canadian Charlotte Brown 12-8.
Katie Bradley from South Hams club won her first senior bronze medal, in the -46kg category whilst 16-year-old Archie Waldock took a silver in the junior male -55kg division, the youngster narrowly missed out in the last seconds to Ruben Garcia Ortiz of Spain 7-3.
There was further medal success for a number of GB juniors and cadets, notably:
Amrou Greenidge, Jordyn Smith and Mason Yarrow who won gold medals, Jonathan Alpha, Brooklyn Burnside and Jasmine Cooke who all achieved bronzes as well as, Shayanne Sarsoza and Holly Hankin-Wray who received silver medals!
Simone Abley also won gold, Taylor Goodall collected a silver and Abigail Stones earned a bronze medal for her efforts in the junior divisions.
