Truesdale Passes Tokyo Para Taekwondo Test and Can’t Wait for Next Year’s Real Thing

28th September 2019

Amy Truesdale passed her Tokyo test with flying colours and said: “I really hope the same thing happens next year.”

The world number one underlined her credentials as a Paralympic gold medal prospect next year by winning the Test event in the Japanese capital.

The Chester raised fighter won three fights, including her semi-final on golden point, to claim gold at next year’s Olympic taekwondo and para taekwondo venue.

“It was great to get a vibe and feel for the place before the real thing,” said Truesdale.

“I have seen the venue now and know what to expect. So, it gives me peace of mind.

“Everything was so organised and structured; the people were super friendly, and I felt relaxed for everything.

“I was pleased my performances were really good. I keep thinking ‘I really hope the same thing happens next year.”

Truesdale also spoke with experienced Paralympian Richard Whitehead recently and explained: “Just a short conversation really helped.

“Richard has just got so much to offer people and so much experience.

“It doesn’t matter what sport you are doing, you will have the same feeling, the same nerves and same mindset.

“People with experience can help you manage that in a pressurised situation,” added Truesdale who now returns to training to prepare for the forthcoming Para taekwondo European Championships.

GB Taekwondo Performance Director, Gary Hall, said of Truesdale success: “Ready Steady Tokyo champion.

“Great performance and great experience gained. Well done Amy.”
