More success in future promises Moore after European Championship exit

19th May 2022

Maddison Moore put on a brave face and pledged to bounce back from her quarter-final exit on the opening day of the European Championships in Manchester.

Moore was the first member of the GB Taekwondo squad in action on the opening day of four at the Regional Arena, Sportcity.

The Blakedown fighter, 27, swept aside French rival, Maysane Kamkasoumphou on points difference in her opening bout.

But she couldn’t sustain her tournament progress against Merve Dincel, her Turkish rival who entered the event unbeaten in 2022 with three titles to her name.

However, with a Grand Prix debut in Rome to look forward to in two weeks, Moore said: “Don’t put the full-stop on me just yet.

“The thing about me is I don’t mope so I will be back in training tomorrow,” she added.

“It hasn’t gone my way, but you have got to keep persisting because one-day it will.

“It is the first time I have been invited to a Grand Prix so I am getting up there and with 60 ranking points to aim for there’s plenty at stake.

“So, I have got to get over this feeling of being sucker-punched. I won’t let my training go to waste because the Turkish girl will be in Rome as well.

“It’s a tough one because I came with the intention to win. In previous competitions, I have come with just the intention to do my best.

“This time, I wasn’t here for third, I wasn’t here for second, I was here for gold. On reflection, I still believe I had the potential to do it.”
